Disappointing KOPA Suffer Defeat
(Thursday 4 February 2010)

KOPA 0 London & Kent Border League 2

KOPA's chances of progressing in the London Inter-League Cup look to be over after they suffered defeat at the hands of the London & Kent Border. Steve Cinotti's team were second best all night as a hungry London & Kent Border League cruised to a comfortable win. The visitors were quickly into their stride as some slick play down both flanks caused KOPA problems. With KOPA's midfield virtually non existent all night, London & Kent Border League were allowed to dictate the game. It was KOPA though who created the first meaningful chance when in the 10th minute Peter Antoniades blazed wide from inside the penalty area. Two minutes later, Lee Dolby drilled a shot from the left at the KOPA goal which Nick Christofi spectacularly tipped over the crossbar. London & Kent Border League went on to dominate the rest of the half as slack play from KOPA saw them concede possession cheaply. Daryl Lawrence's tame shot in the 23rd minute went wide of Christiofi's post as the visitors looked the more likely to score. At the other end, long balls up to Murat Karagul and Kyri Kyprianou were having little effect as the London & Kent Border League comfortably dealt with the danger. The deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when a low free kick into the KOPA penalty area was not cleared allowing Lawrence to shoot low into the far left-hand corner of Chrisofi's goal. KOPA's problems increased when Rob Bryant doubled the lead in the 41st minute. It could have been worst for KOPA before the break when on the stroke of half time Tony Green had a free kick saved by Christofi. London & Kent Border League continued to attack in numbers in the second half as they hounded KOPA into errors. Lawrence should have added a third in the 49th minute when he raced past the KOPA defense only to shoot at Christofi's legs. KOPA's best chance of the match fell to Karagul in the 54th minute when he thumped a vicious shot from 30 yards out that Danny Garwood did well to palm away. This lifted KOPA and for the next ten minutes they enjoyed their best spell of possession. The London & Kent Border League repelled everything KOPA threw at them as their defense refused to yield. Despite having more of the ball during this period KOPA failed to test Garwood again. Christofi was called into action once more on 76 minutes as he easily saved Joe Penny's tame shot. Despite pushing more players into attack in the closing stages, KOPA never looked like scoring as the London & Kent Border League ran out worthy winners.

Turkish Delight As KOPA Are Beaten (Thursday 7 May 2009

KOPA 1 Turkish Community Football Federation 2

The Turkish Community Football Federation (TCFF) put in a passionate and committed performance to wrestle the London Inter-League Cup from the hands of KOPA. Right from the first whistle the TCFF showed their intent as they were first to every ball while KOPA looked lethargic in their approach. The slick inter passing of the TCFF was causing all sorts of problems for KOPA and it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough was made. In the 20th minute, Ali Demir struck for the TCFF amid wide scenes of celebrations in the stands. KOPA needed to respond and against the run of play they equalized through the impressive Mustafa Dunbuy on the stroke of half time. The TCFF came flying out of the traps at the start of the second period an it was no surprise when they edged ahead once more in the 48th minute as Sefa Saglam was allowed too much space by the KOPA defence before shooting low past Michael Kalli. KOPA could not reply again as the constant long balls forward were comfortably dealt with by the TCFF’s defence. With the clock ticking down, KOPA threw more men forward which left them short of numbers at the back. The TCFF were content to counter attack where possible and always looked the more likely to score again. In the end, KOPA had run out of ideas leaving the TCFF to lift the London Inter-League Cup.

The A-Team See Off The B-Boys (Thursday 9 April 2009)

London Inter-League Cup, Group Match

KOPA 3 Turkish Community Football Federation ‘B’ 1

KOPA's Representative Team has reached the final of the London Inter-League Cup after defeating the Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' 3-1 at Cheshunt FC. Knowing that only a win would do, manager Steven Cinotti picked an attacking team spearheaded by the pace and power of Kyri Kyprianou and George Gregoriou. KOPA dictated the early part of the first half with Kyprianou going close in the 9th minute as his powerful shot was well saved by Ferhat Huseyin. The Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' goalkeeper was called into action again in the 13th minute, comfortably smothering Lawrence Cinstanti's 30 yard drive. The pressure paid off in the 18th minute when a defensive mistake was seized upon by Kyprianou who drilled his close range shot from the right past the exposed Huseyin and into the net. The goal finally stirred the visitors to life and a minute later the dangerous Tansel Tezel shot wide much to the relief of Michael Kalli in the KOPA goal. The Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' were now playing themselves back into the match as the pace of the game began to increase. Koray Calcalioglu saw his shot go high over the crossbar for the Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' in the 25th minute while two minutes later at the other end Kyprianou shot tamely at Huseyin. Kalli was called into action for the first time just before the half hour mark as Calcalioglu's weak shot was dealt with the minimum of fuss. The Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' were getting closer and in the 34th minute they levelled the match. Kemal Tas found Tezel in the penalty area and the forward's finish was clinical. KOPA's response was a positive one as they regained the lead on the stroke off half time. Kyprianou burst clear down the left wing before sending a teasing low cross into the penalty area for Gregoriou to slam into the net from 6 yards. The second period began at a high tempo as KOPA looked for a third goal. In the 52nd minute it arrived in stunning fashion as Kyprianou unleashed a ferocious shot from 35 yards that flashed past Huseyin. The Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' should have pulled a goal back soon after but the unmarked Tezel inexplicably headed wide from 8 yards. The visitors were running out of time and in a desperate attempt to retrieve the game they pushed more players into attack. KOPA were content to sit back and counter whenever possible. Kyriakos Portou's low shot from the right in the 70th minute went wide of the far post as KOPA continued to cause problems for their opponents. In the closing minutes, Ozgur Ozcelik headed straight at Kalli and Tas saw his 35 yard effort go high over the goal as the Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' finished strongly but by then KOPA were already celebrating reaching another final.

Four-midable KOPA Begin In Style (Thursday 5 March 2009)

West End (London) AFA 0 KOPA 4

London Inter-League Cup, Group Match

KOPA made a convincing start to their defence of the London Inter-League Cup by thrashing West End (London) AFA 4-0 on a bitterly cold night at Hanwell FC. It was evident early on that KOPA would be too strong for their opponents as they dominated possession in a one-sided first half. Safraz Pivano and Raffaele Kaphouris linked up well on the left in the opening minutes as they gave the West End (London) AFA back line a torrid time. What was missing was an end product as the balls to Richard Warrell and Dean Barker were poor and they were comfortably dealt with by the home team. It wasn’t until the 18th minute that KOPA had their first shot with Yasha Tobias-Browne’s 25-yard effort going straight at Brad Ambridge in the West End (AFA) London goal. KOPA’s constant pressure paid off in the 22nd minute as Safraz Pivano pounced on a mistake to coolly slot the ball across Ambridge for the opening goal. A minute later, Warrell fired narrowly wide as KOPA continued to keep the hosts on the back foot. KOPA were now enjoying their best spell of the game and almost doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Lawrence Constanti put his shot the wrong side of the post. He almost made amends a minute later but was only denied by a fine save by Ambridge. West End (London) AFA managed to keep KOPA out for the remainder of the half and were relieved to only trail by one goal at the break. The second period began with the hosts holding their own as to many misplaced passes threatened to allow West End (London) AFA back into the game. Manager Steven Cinttoti responded by bringing on debutant Kyriakos Portou and last seasons super sub Alex Roussis. Portou made an immediate impact as his goal-bound header in the 70th minute was kept out by a spectacular save from Ambridge. Two minutes later, KOPA doubled their lead as Constanti’s cross from the right was volleyed in by Man-of-the-Match Pivano. With the game becoming more stretched, KOPA were finding more room as West End (London) AFA began to tire. In the 76th minute, KOPA struck again to make it 3-0. Roussis' persistence deep down the right-wing paid off when his cross to the near post was cleverly helped on by Pivano to Portou who drilled the ball past an exposed Ambridge. Roussis added a fourth in the 86th minute, clinically finishing off a slick counter-attack. A finger tipped save by Ambridge two minutes later denied Tobias-Browne a goal but by then the game had been won to leave KOPA a step nearer to another final appearance.

Kyprianou Shoots KOPA To Glory (Wednesday 14 May 2008)

KOPA 2 Woolwich & Eltham 0

London Inter-League Cup, Final

A brace from Kyri Kyprianou secured the London Inter-League Cup for a record 12th time for KOPA in a surprisingly one sided final at Haringey Borough FC. From early on, KOPA looked the stronger of the two teams with the wingers Safraz Pivano and Lawrence Constanti giving both the Woolwich & Eltham full backs problems. The pressure was already telling and in the 7th minute KOPA took the lead. Kyprianou found himself clean through on goal and kept his composure to drill a shot beyond the reach of Mel Banezkadi. KOPA continued to push forward after the goal with Kyprianou and fellow forward Israel Amadi always posing a threat. Woolwich & Eltham were being outplayed and at times overrun and fell further behind in the 22nd minute. A quick free kick by Terry Paul out on the left to Pivano caught the Woolwich & Eltham defence by surprise. Pivano then slipped in Kyprianou who smashed the ball into the net. It was all KOPA up until the break but a decisive third goal eluded them. Woolwich & Eltham tightened up in the second half but it was KOPA who looked the more dangerous when attacking. With the KOPA players being constantly caught off side, Woolwich & Eltham were risking going further behind. The few chances that Woolwich & Eltham created were squandered with Michael Kalli rarely troubled in the KOPA goal. Kyprianou almost added a third but the inside of a post came to the rescue of Woolwich & Eltham but the leagues leading striker had already done enough to see KOPA lift the trophy once more.

KOPA Have The Final Say (Thursday 10 April 2008)

West End (London) AFA 1 KOPA 2

London Inter-League Cup, Group Match

KOPA completed their group matches with maximum points from their three games to progress to the final of the London Inter-League Cup. The score line flattered their opponents as for the first hour KOPA dominated. The home team keeper was kept busy throughout as West End (London) AFA found themselves on the back foot right from the start. Kevin Smith clipped the outside of a post in the early minutes before the relentless pressure finally told as Lawrence Constanti drilled in the opening goal on 13 minutes. KOPA continued to press but some wayward finishing and heroic goalkeeping kept the score at 1-0 at the end of the first period. It was a similar story at the start of the second half as KOPA looked to turn their superior possession into more goals. Constanti saw his free kick tipped onto the crossbar and away for a corner as West End (London) AFA desperately tried to stem the flow of KOPA attacks. Captain George Sifonios took the resulting corner and almost scored but once more the home team goalkeeper parried the ball onto the crossbar and away to safety. Super-sub Alex Roussis was introduced to the action and the Brotherhood striker didn’t take long to keep up his remarkable scoring record. In the 63rd minute, he seized on a mistake at the back to score for the third consecutive Representative game. KOPA then took their foot off the pedal and as they started to lose the midfield, West End (London) AFA began to enjoy more of the ball. Five minutes from the end, the hosts scored but KOPA never looked like conceding a second goal as they saw out the last few minutes.

KOPA Subs Sink Turkish & Kurdish League (Wednesday 12 March 2008)

London Inter-League Cup, Group Match

KOPA 3 Turkish & Kurdish League 0 (played Wednesday 12 March 2008)

For the second game running, Brotherhood striker Alex Roussis came of the substitute’s bench to inspire KOPA to victory. Up to the point of Roussis’ introduction, KOPA had been frustrated by a poor final ball and some lethargic finishing. The first half was dominated by KOPA as they controlled the play but the end product was letting them down. When they did get through the brittle defense of the visitors, the goalkeeper came to the rescue of the Turkish & Kurdish League. The best opportunity of the half fell to Israel Amadi on 20 minutes but his shot was brilliantly saved. KOPA continued to be frustrated in the second half as the Turkish & Kurdish League kept them out. The turning point came in the 73rd minute when manager Steven Cinotti introduced Roussis to the game. Within a minute KOPA were ahead as Kevin Smith slipped a low ball into the path of Roussis. With the visitors defense appealing for off side, Roussis raced clear and calmly waited for the goalkeeper to commit himself before slipping the ball past him and into an empty net. Smith almost made it 2-0 in the 80th minute, firstly heading onto the crossbar and then following up to head goal bound once more only to be denied by a fine save by the goalkeeper. The second goal did arrive in the 86th minute as Lawrence Constanti, another substitute, brilliantly skipped past several challenges before hitting an unstoppable shot that flew in of the post. In the final minute, Roussis burst clear on the right and saw his angled drive come back of the inside of the far post and into the path of the unmarked Safraz Pivano who tapped in for number three.

Oh Brother! Roussis Wins It For KOPA (Thursday 31 January 2008)

London Inter-League Cup, Group Match

Turkish Community Football Federation ‘B’ 1 KOPA 2 (played Thursday 31 January 2008)

Brotherhood striker Alex Roussis came of the bench to score an injury time winner as KOPA got their defense of the London Inter-League Cup off to a shaky start. Steven Cinotti's side will count themselves fortunate to have won a match after putting in a below par performance. The Turkish Community Football Federation 'B' were more fluid in their play early on but found Terry Paul a colossus at the back for KOPA, repelling everything that was thrown at him. The hosts failed to take advantage of KOPA’s misfiring midfield in the first half and were made to pay after the interval. Skipper George Sifonios thumped an unstoppable 25 yard shot over the keeper in the 52nd minute to give KOPA the lead. This lifted the visitors as they began to take control of the game but ten minutes from time they conceded after failing to clear their lines. With the game heading towards a draw, debutant Roussis warmed up the supporters on a bitterly cold night with a clinical finish to give KOPA a winning start to their campaign.
